*UPDATE*

There is now a way to block Google Sidewiki comments on your websites without having to block all Google Toolbar users.

You can find the Google Sidewiki Defeat code here: http://code.google.com/p/sidewiki-defeat/

We have not attempted to do this, nor are we recommending it. However, if you feel inclined to try it out then please do let us know about your experience.

One more common question I am getting a lot already...

Common Question #3

QUESTION: Can people with Safari or Chrome use this?

ANSWER: No. Currently only Firefox and Internet Explorer users can use and see Google Sidewiki as it is tied to the Google Toolbar. The Google Toolbar currently only works with Firefox and Internet Explorer.

Just wanted to add a couple quick things regarding Google Sidewiki:

Common Question #1

QUESTION: Can we control / edit the comments that are posted?

ANSWER: No. At least not right now. Google does not provide the ability to edit a comment once it is posted or remove it. Once someone puts something up it is there permanently. One caveat is that the only people who can see Sidewiki comments are people who have the NEW Google Toolbar downloaded on Firefox or IE. Right now this number is probably low, but it will increase dramatically as the word spreads over the coming months.

Common Question #2

QUESTION: Can Google Sidewiki be blocked on my site?

ANSWER: Yes, there is a way to completely block Google Sidewiki, which would prevent people from commenting on your site without your oversight. You can view how to do this here: http://ow.ly/r1Zq. One thing to keep in mind with this though is that if you implement this, then anyone who has the Google Toolbar will not be able to see your website. You will have to redirect them from a page that explains why they are being blocked. Is this worth it to you?
